Question to Self: Am I really dealing with a problem employee?
There are 2 ways to cope with a problem employee situation.
(1) I can either ignore it or (2)DEAL with it.
Actually – it’s the same with any problem in life.
- Sometimes we run from our problems.
Sometimes we face them.
The irony of this choice is that in running from my problems I am seeking relief, but I actually end up suffering.
I did that with a business partnership problem for 3 years!! I self-inflicted my suffering.
As someone once said, “Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.”
When we face our issues we can experience pain, but end up relieved.
Imagine this:
I have a stomachache. For the last four months. It hurts everyday.
I ignore it in order to avoid the fear and inconvenience of going to the doctor.
My recurring stomachache is a sign of a health problem that I need to pay attention to.
If you don’t do something, it’ll end up being a BIGGER inconvenience, costing more money, and more pain.
My problems don’t go away because I run from them.
They get worse.
The evitable cost of dealing with it escalates.
My stomach will continue to ache until I finally decide, “Okay, I gotta deal with this.”
Then, and only then, will I get relief – hopefully if I haven’t left it too long.
Operating Assumption:
I get exactly the problems I need in my life to fix the things about myself that need fixing.
So, by avoiding dealing with the problem employee, the thing that I am avoiding about my Self is … (fill in the blank).
